What to Bring to a Bankruptcy Consultation

What to Bring to a Bankruptcy Consultation

Bankruptcy and debt-relief consultations are more productive when clients have a basic picture of debts, income, assets, and urgent collection activity.

Helpful information to gather

  • Creditor notices, collection letters, lawsuits, judgments, or garnishment papers
  • Foreclosure, repossession, or sheriff-sale notices, if any
  • Recent pay records and general income information
  • Basic household size and expense information
  • Mortgage, vehicle, credit-card, medical, tax, and personal-loan information
  • Prior bankruptcy history, if any

Do not submit Social Security numbers, account numbers, tax returns, or detailed financial records through a general public form. Sensitive records should be shared only through a secure process after the firm confirms the next step.
